The Journey Of
Hiring a new nanny
Parents often express surprise at the number of steps involved in the process of employing a nanny
At Penelope, we are dedicated to providing assistance and support to parents by offering the right information, tools, and services they need to make it simple
Step 1
Becoming a new employer
Now that you are planning on employing a nanny, you will have to prepare to become an employer in the eyes of HMRC.
This often comes as news to parents, and becomes a cause for concern, but we’re here to change that. We’ll set you up with a new HMRC employer account, activate it, and link it to Penelope so that we can act on your behalf on all things employer related.
Step 2
Getting everything ready
Finding a nanny and getting them fully setup can be perplexing. Whether it’s searching for and interviewing nannies, figuring out what your total costs will actually be, or ensuring that the contract reflects your requirements and adheres to legislations.
We will guide you through all of this, most of which can be done in a couple of steps within the Penelope portal, so you can be ready for your nanny to start taking care of your children.
Step 3
The day-to-day
We’ll not only make submissions to HMRC on your behalf, but also make the lead up to each payroll date a breeze.
The Penelope portal allows you to manage everything within a few clicks, from receiving and approving holiday requests, to dealing with overtime, to accurately calculating all payments for each party each month. We can even distribute these payments for you if you add managed payments to your package.
Step 4
The not-so-day-to-day
While most of your time as an employer should be simple and predictable, you may encounter events that are less routine, like your nanny going on sick leave.
We’re here to give you the peace of mind that in these moments, we’ll be on hand with vast experience. We have a growing knowledge centre, if you wish to find guidance online, and a friendly customer support team, if you want a more personal touch.
